How to Bring Sparkle into the Holiday Season

’Tis the season for holiday parties galore. Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s — December is chockfull of celebrations! From office cocktail parties to family shindigs, the holiday season requires a rotating closet of festive looks. Take a hint from dazzling holiday lights and tinsel-draped trees — the season is made for sparkle. To bring my holiday looks alive, I’ve partnered with Deutsch Fine Jewelry to style scintillating jewelry into seasonal outfits.

Read the Room

When choosing a look for a holiday event, it’s important to consider the tone of the party. Are you going to a casual gift exchange with friends or a more upscale cocktail party? Will you be toasting to the new year with your girlfriends or impressing the executives at your company’s annual outing? Understanding the mood of an event as well as the story your outfit tells is key.

Plan Your Accessories

Once you’ve determined the message you want to send with your look, accessories can help you put the exclamation point on a final ensemble. For example, a New Year’s Eve celebration requires LOTS of sparkle. Clink your champagne glasses with a wrist full of stacked diamonds.

For something more relaxed like your family holiday card photoshoot or dinner with your in-laws, you’ll want to find a piece that’s elegant and simple.

Introducing Jewelry Into My Holiday Looks

Look 1: Casual Off-the-Shoulder Velvet

This semi-casual outfit is ideal for a more relaxed holiday event. I love dressing up a pair of denim jeans with a luxe fabric like velvet, and this green velvet top was a prime pick for the Christmas season. To tie-in red and elevate the outfit, I styled it with my a pair of Christian Louboutin So Kate heels.

An off-the-shoulder top is a perfect reason to wear show-stopping jewels. With an exposed décolletage, your neck becomes open real estate. I love layering necklaces to add dynamic to a look. A layered necklace makes for an eye-catching statement that adds depth to a look. These Meira T ruby necklaces made great companions, layering beautifully with this green top.

Sometimes wearing holiday colors can feel a little too literal. When done right, blending a themed-color palette into your look can add class and make for great conversation. In this case, I really loved festively pairing these items in a sophisticated way.

Drop earrings, like Meira T’s pave open teardrop earrings, also add a great dose of sparkle to dress up the look.

  • Meira T 14K White Gold 7.84 CT Ruby Center with .24 CT Diamond Pave Halo Pendant

  • Meira T 14K White Gold .59 CT Diamond Pave Open Teardrop Earrings

Look 2: Tinsel Black Dress

For special occasions like New Year’s Eve, follow the call of the disco ball. The more sparkle infused into your look, the better! This black dress scintillates with silver tinsel that changes colors depending on the light. Its low V-neck allows the space for a dazzling necklace, so I decided to include a rose gold Norman Silverman necklace with diamonds by the yard.

One thing to remember when styling jewelry is that mixing metals is never a bad thing! Similar to decorating a room in your home, you want your outfit to incorporate different textures and layers. Incorporating different metals into a look adds creativity and interest to your look. For a bold outfit, your jewelry should be bold — forget the rules you thought existed. In this look, I mixed Armenta’s sterling silver rings with a variety of gold bracelets from Hulchi Belluni.

The dazzling Hulchi Belluni bracelets are without a doubt some of my favorite pieces in this entire look. I love stacking accessories and blending the diamond pieces with their solid counterparts.
