Tackling No-Tox Beauty with Cosmetic Acupuncture

Happy Monday, friends! Consider today a #NoMakeupMonday because I’m excited to share my latest beauty obsession. I had the chance to visit Modern Acupuncture in River Oaks Shopping Center for cosmetic acupuncture in celebration of National No Makeup Day on April 26. It’s no secret that I love finding the latest anti-aging trends to try, so I immediately jumped at the opportunity to get in the chair and “tingle.”

Modern Acupuncture is answering the botox trend with a “no-tox,” toxin-free movement. Being in a public facing job, I’ve really questioned whether I wanted to go under the needle for botox over the last year. At only 29, my family and friends think that I am being overdramatic with my fixation on fine lines on my forehead and other natural signs of aging that have popped up in recent years. This pressure to be perfect stems from a filtered society that is inescapable in the blogging industry. I’ve chosen to use natural methods, which is why “no-tox” beauty was totally in-line with my mission and didn’t compromise my values.

What Are the Benefits of Cosmetic Acupuncture?

I was amazed by the amount of benefits acupuncture has to offer. Raised as a skeptic, I used to be unsure of acupuncture’s principles but have since fallen in love and have become a true believer in the benefits. Modern Acupuncture’s services and packages are completely customizable to what you’re looking to achieve and are designed to empower people to feel confident with their skin without the use of toxins or chemicals found in procedures like Botox:

  • Enhances glow
  • Evens skin tones
  • Reduces under-eye bags and fine lines
  • Regenerates complexion
  • Lifts and tones facial muscles
  • Softens deeper wrinkles
  • Increases circulation and vitality

With a gigantic list of deliverables, I was so on board to give cosmetic acupuncture a go.

But How Does it Work?

Still wondering how tiny acupuncture needles can help reverse your wrinkles? Acupuncture remedies the surface effects of aging by triggering a self-repair response in the skin and addressing the internal stressors that contribute to the signs of aging. The tiny microtraumas caused by the needles trigger an increase in blood flow and activate collagen production. The increased collagen production results in revitalized and nourished skin, a brighter complexion and a more youthful appearance.

Tackle Health and Beauty in One Fell Swoop

When I entered in Modern Acupuncture, the staff was so incredibly helpful. Once I signed up and watched an informational video educating me on everything to expect, I was escorted to the Zen Den to speak to a licensed acupuncturist about my areas of concern. I was impressed to find that not only was she interested in my cosmetic concerns like forehead and laugh lines, but she also wanted to take a full-body approach to my needs. I explained that I often am very tense and struggle to handle stress. My acupuncturist included the acupuncture needles in places like my ears and feet to help target this stress. The best part of cosmetic acupuncture is it also includes traditional acupuncture at the same time, combining your beauty goals with your overall wellness.

What to Expect During Acupuncture

The acupuncture process was simple and painless in my opinion. I did feel a small prick, but I didn’t feel a painful sensation like I used to expect. During the session, my acupuncture specialist placed small needles into my face, arms, ears, and feet but I couldn’t feel a thing. Acupuncture needles are incredibly thin, and smaller than a single strand of hair! I started to feel relaxed instantly and even fell asleep during the 30-minute session. The treatment room features massage chairs separated by curtains for privacy so you can relax in peace while listening to tranquil music. Modern Acupuncture is also very flexible, offering appointments and walk-in availability.

If you’re undergoing cosmetic acupuncture, you will be asked to remove your makeup with a cleansing wipe. I recommend going makeup free to save time. I also learned that wearing shorts or dresses at knee length is recommended, as your licensed acupuncturist may need to roll up your paints for other treatments targeting pain, medical issues or stress.

Is It Worth it?

Modern Acupuncture recommends 12 sessions to see the best benefits of the treatment. There are various treatment plans and pricing options to take advantage of in-store. As for the other results, you’ll start to feel stress reduction almost instantly. I left feeling so refreshed and my doubts of acupuncture dissolved in minutes. I loved my treatment and definitely plan to return to Modern Acupuncture to follow through.

Disclosure: I was invited to experience two sessions of cosmetic acupuncture in partnership with Modern Acupuncture; as always, all opinions are my own.
