Join Me at Fashionably Pink with CanCare & Elaine Turner

More Than Pink - Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness MonthOne in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Looking around my office building, that statistic is powerful enough to knock me off my feet. It’s safe to say that cancer has affected all of us in a negative way at some point in our lives. Whether you’re a survivor, know a survivor, or lost someone to the terrible disease, cancer has disrupted the health of so many in such an unfortunate way.

After spending days upon days with my grandmother after her diagnosis and consoling my best friend n whatever way I could muster as her mom went through chemotherapy, I understand the need to put an end to this ruthless disease. My grandmother passed of old age last year, but she survived the breast cancer diagnosis she faced in her seventies with fierce strength and conviction. The one thing my grandmother always wished she had more of was support. My family was there for her, but none of her daughters or granddaughters could really relate to the taxing cycle of treatments that became part of her daily life.

Two weeks ago, the organization CanCare reached out to me with the opportunity to host its event at Elaine Turner and I was so inspired by the organization’s mission. CanCare matches cancer patients and their caregivers with cancer survivors who have fought and overcome a similar diagnosis for one-on-one emotional support, free of cost. Its mission is to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caregivers. I just think about my grandmother, along with every friend I’ve had who has been impacted, and wonder how much different their fight would have been with the help of a caregiver who truly understands.

I’d love for you to join me tonight, October 26thfrom 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., at Elaine Turner‘s Rice Village location for a celebration of life to support breast cancer awareness month and benefit CanCare.
