Valentine’s Day is creeping up on us… I don’t have to tell you twice. Whether you’re single, taken or simply celebrating at home with wine and your fur baby, I have the sweetest giveaway to share with you. My favorite part about Valentine’s Day is the decor that goes along with the occasion. The flowers, the soft pink hues, the hand-written notes — I live for these dainty details. To top my halcyon youth of candygrams and N’SYNC cards, I decided to create a DIY Valentine’s Day Bar Cart inspired by Rose Nerds.
If you know me, you’ll know I’m obsessed with having fresh flowers in my home. I’m the type of person who goes to the grocery store, forgets the item I actually came for, and returns home with a fresh bouquet of peonies. Rose Nerds sent me 50 Valentine’s Day gerbera daisies to deck out my home, so I did what I knew best and began arranging. Thankfully, you’ll have a chance to win these flowers this Valentine’s Day by simply following the rules at the end of this post!
Let’s talk bar carts. I’ve been pushing for a bar cart since I moved into my apartment, but to be quite honest, I’ve always felt like we didn’t have the space. My ROSKAG bar cart was the perfect size and ended up being the best option. After sitting out on my back porch for months holding flowers and herbs, I decided its purposes were better spent holding liquor than killing plants (just kidding, I totally killed the plants on my own). Once the bar cart was set in place, it was time to decorate in the name of Valentine’s Day or simply a reason to sip champagne. Here are my three simple tips:
Strike Up a Balance
You’ll notice that my bar cart shifts its focal point from row to row. The Rose Nerds gerbera daisies are the dominant feature on the right side of the top row, balanced by my favorite ampersand marquee and drinking options. The middle row also varies in height, Daring Greatly, #GirlBoss and my motivational menagerie of literature balance the cart by being placed on the left side. If you look closely you’ll see my copper mugs peeking out. Finally, the last row shifts back to the right with a sweet “I Love Us” kitchen towel from Paper Source sitting adjacent to an attention-grabbing metallic planter. The flowers are the star of the show here and components like the ampersand, copper mugs for two, and “I Love Us” quote help tie together the Valentine’s Day theme.
Stock It Up
To be quite honest, a bar cart doesn’t even have to be a bar. When I received the flowers from Rose Nerds, I knew I wanted a beautiful way to display them. I think that this cart could stand alone as a book shelf, flower cart or even a coffee cart (it’s been done). I got lucky in the sense that my favorite drinks are made from the prettiest bottles in our liquor collection. For this cart, I pulled a bottle of St. Germain, Tanqueray Gin and a glitter bottle of ONEHOPE sparkling wine. The light hits these babies perfectly and sparkle is always welcome.
Make It Your Happy Place
From the daisies to the literature, this bart cart was created to be my little rolling bubble of happy. I don’t even drink often so the sole purpose wasn’t to have a liquor stash, but to have an aesthetically exciting piece of furniture to lighten up our space. My apartment is very neutral in color — beige walls, brown couches, and a variety of things I’m still trying to get used to. This bar cart is my way to make my apartment feel like mine.
You may not know this but 50 gerbera daisies go a LONG way. I took the remaining 25 stems and created a lovely arrangement to tie the entire apartment together. (That adorable Mr. and Mrs. vase can be found here.) So are you ready to win your own set of Valentine’s Day flowers (an $80 value) to spruce up your space?
