20 Road Trip Essentials

roadtrip

After years of being in a long-distance relationship, I’m still struggling to perfect the perfect weekend bag. Drastically overpacked and often unprepared for the temperamental Texas weather, I’ve developed the simple routine of throwing everything I own into a suitcase and praying it weighs less than 50 pounds. While I may not understand the idea of packing light for a flight, I’m always road trip ready. The first step, of course, is having a wonderful car for the long journey ahead. I have even been considering a new car from a car lease company. Nothing decided just yet. Anyway, I have a Spotify playlist for every life event, a “coming of age” book shelf worthy of Jack Kerouac’s approval, comfortably chic basics and lazy girl beauty hacks. Here are a few essentials from my current week on the open road:

Road Trip Look

H&M heeled sandals

Brown backpack

old fashioned fade

Comfort is key. I recently caved and bought a utility jacket that I feel I could live in 365 days a year. Throw this baby on top of some basics and get cozy. For a charitable touch, Warby Parker glasses are perfect for keeping the glare away.
Road Trip Reading List

Of all the books (and even a magazine) on this list, Picture of Dorian Gray definitely had the largest impact on me. If you’re feeling a little deep, give Oscar Wilde or Hermann Hesse a read. Road trips are about finding yourself, right? At least that’s what Britney Spears taught us in Crossroads.
Road TripTech Gear

The Instax Mini 8 is my new favorite toy. If you’re the passenger of your next big trip, keep one in the glove compartment for photo worthy scenery and car ride shenanigans. The photos make sweet bookmarks and even sweeter DIY decor. Charitable bonus: for each sale of LSTN headphones, you’re helping restore hearing through Starkey Hearing Foundation.
P.S. If you’re not a fan of podcasts, you will be. Listening to music is great, but imagine learning new things along your expansive, almost unbearable ride. If you’re looking to learn, just keep away from Welcome to Night Vale for now (and dog parks).
Road Trip Beauty

Tarte makeup
sephora.com

If you feel the absolute need to put makeup on your face, wear something light like Tarte’s BB cream. One of the best part’s is that it’s 100% cruelty free. Batiste dry shampoo will also be your best friend. (We all know hotel air blowers are just a tease.)
